Indy Hematology Education, Inc. Achieving tomorrow’s outcomes through education today.TM

Hematology generally refers to the diagnosis and care of diseases and disorders relating to the blood, spleen, and lymph glands.  Hematologists frequently specialize in oncology, the treatment of cancer, as many Hematological disorders involve blood related cancers.  Indy Hematology Education, Inc, (“Indy Hematology”) will focus its efforts on raising awareness and providing education regarding hematology and oncology diseases and disorders.  Indy Hematology will also focus on encouraging youth to pursue careers in hematology and oncology.  Additionally, Indy Hematology will work to connect organizations, programs, and service providers with individuals affected by hematology and oncology diseases and disorders. The need for an organization like Indy Hematology in Indiana in undeniable.  It was estimated that 138,000 Americans were diagnosed with some form of blood cancer in 2008.  Approximately 53,000 newly diagnosed Americans also died of their disease.  Doctors and scientists are still unsure what causes many hematology and oncology diseases and disorders.  As new discoveries are made, Doctors and Scientists are better able to answer questions and identify ways to prevent hematology and oncology diseases and disorders.  With over 700,000 medically underserved individuals in Indiana, educating the public and medical providers regarding hematology and oncology diseases and disorders, specifically blood cancers, is an important way to increase prevention efforts, raise awareness and promote early detection. Indy Hematology plans on having a positive impact in the community by serving as a resource for information related to hematology and oncology disorders.  As stated in its Articles of Incorporation, Indy Hematology’s specific charitable purposes are to:
  • Raise awareness and provide education regarding hematology and oncology diseases and disorders;
  • To encourage youth to pursue careers in hematology and oncology; and
  • To connect individuals suffering from or affected by hematology and oncology diseases and disorders to organizations, programs, and service providers.
To achieve its goals and carryout its charitable purposes, Indy Hematology plans to focus its efforts in the following three areas:
  1. Provision of educational programs to medical providers and the public
  2. Exposure of youth to careers in hematology and oncology
  3. Production of Resource Guide
